Acanthicus hystrix

Acanthicus hystrix is a large, highly armored catfish known for its spiny appearance. The body is adorned with protruding scales and a characteristic lyre-shaped tail. Known for its robustness, it necessitates a spacious aquarium with plenty of hiding spots and smooth surfaces to prevent injury. Despite its intimidating appearance, this species is generally peaceful but may act territorial, especially in smaller aquariums. It feeds primarily at the bottom of the tank, consuming a range of foods from sinking pellets to occasional vegetables like zucchini and cucumber.
