Apistogramma rio are part of the dwarf cichlid group, known for their vibrant colors and interesting behaviors. They prefer well-structured tanks with plenty of hiding spots using natural decorations like driftwood and leaf litter. They are best exhibited in biotope-style aquariums to mimic natural habitat conditions. Fine substrate is recommended to facilitate foraging behavior. They are a social species and can be aggressive during breeding periods.
