Apistogramma urteagai is a relatively peaceful species but can exhibit territorial behavior, particularly during breeding. It thrives in an aquarium that replicates its natural habitat, including hiding spaces formed by driftwood, rocks, and dense vegetation. A dark substrate can enhance its natural coloration. Small invertebrates and high-quality pellet foods can be part of their diet.
