Chitala lopis

Chitala lopis, commonly known as the Indonesian Featherback, is a riverine fish known for its elongated, laterally compressed body and distinct dorsal fin that resembles a feather. It is a nocturnal predatory fish and can attain a maximum size of approximately 120 cm in the wild, though aquarium specimens often grow to smaller sizes due to space constraints. The species is known for being territorial and should ideally be the sole occupant of its aquarium or housed with very large and robust tankmates. As a carnivorous species, Chitala lopis requires a diet rich in proteins such as live or frozen foods like shrimp, fish, and insects. Given its size and natural behavior, it demands a spacious tank with adequate hiding spaces and a strong filter system to manage the bioload. Regular water changes are essential to maintain water quality.
