Colossoma brachypomus

Colossoma brachypomus is a large, robust fish and a popular species in aquaculture due to its fast growth rate. It is often mistakenly thought to be a piranha due to its similar appearance but is largely herbivorous. Its diet in the wild includes seeds and fruits that fall into water bodies, but it will adapt to feeding on vegetables and commercially prepared fish diets in captivity. Due to its size, keeping this species requires large tanks.
