Crenicara punctulata, commonly known as the Checkerboard Cichlid due to its distinctive pattern, is a peaceful species suitable for community aquariums. They're best kept in groups of at least six to promote natural social behavior. However, due to their territorial nature during breeding times, enough space and hiding spots should be provided. Tanks with soft substrate, ample vegetation, and subdued lighting recreate their natural habitat closely, minimizing stress and enhancing well-being.
