Garra borneensis is an active and social fish that requires clean, well-oxygenated water with adequate current, mimicking riverine conditions. A sand or smooth gravel substrate dotted with rocks and wood mimicking their natural environment is crucial for their health and well-being. Ensure the setup has plenty of hiding places to reduce stress and territorial behaviors. It is a peaceful species compatible with other similar-sized fish, though they should be kept in groups of at least 5 to foster their social behavior.
