Homalopteroides smithi
Smith's Loach, Smith's Hillstream Loach
Homalopteroides smithi, commonly referred to as Smith's Loach, is a peaceful and hardy species well-suited for community aquariums given the right conditions. Its natural habitat consists of fast-flowing streams; thus, a strong water current in the tank is necessary, along with clean and well-oxygenated water. A well-planted tank with smooth rocks and driftwood will mimic its natural environment and provide necessary hiding spots and algae cover as a food source. Regular water changes are essential to maintain water quality. Care should be taken when handling as their bodies are delicate, and they are sensitive to poor water conditions.
