Leporinus copelandii, known commonly to aquarists as Copeland's Leporinus, is a peaceful and hardy species ideal for community tanks, given its non-aggressive behavior. However, due to its size, it requires a spacious tank set up with ample swimming space and a well-planted environment. It is an omnivorous species, and a varied diet including both plant and animal matter will best suit its nutritional needs. While they adapt well to aquarium conditions, a consistent environment resembling their natural habitat attributes to their overall health and longevity in captivity.
