Macropodus erythropterus are known for their aggressive tendencies, especially in smaller tanks. They are best kept in larger community tanks with equally robust species, or in a species-only setup. They are labyrinth fish, which means that in addition to using gills, they can breathe air directly from the surface. They are visually striking due to their bright red fins and sleek body shape.
