Neolamprologus helianthus is a territorial and relatively aggressive fish, especially during breeding. They are best kept in a species-specific tank or with other similarly sized Tanganyikan cichlids. Lots of rock structures and caves should be provided to replicate their natural habitat and reduce aggression.
