Papyrocranus afer are known for their elongated bodies and undulating fin movements. They are nocturnal, preferring subdued lighting and plenty of hiding spaces within their environment. Although generally peaceful, they can be territorial with conspecifics and vulnerable smaller fish species. Good filtration and aeration are essential due to their preference for well-oxygenated waters.
