Polyodon spathula
American Paddlefish, Spoonbill Cat
Polyodon spathula is known for its long, paddle-shaped snout which it uses to feed on plankton. It's an ancient species bearing resemblance to early fishes with unique sensory adaptations. In captivity, they require spacious environments due to their enormous size and rapid swimming capabilities. These characteristics also make them less suitable for wild capture and transportation, stressing conservation.
