Pseudopimelodus bufonius, commonly known as the Sapo Catfish, are nocturnal and elusive creatures. They prefer to be housed in dimly lit aquariums with plenty of hiding spots. Despite their peaceful nature, they can be territorial with conspecifics, so sufficient space and territories are necessary when keeping multiple individuals.
