Retroculus xinguensis is a bottom-dwelling cichlid known for its distinct behavior and substrate-sifting habits. They exhibit beautiful scale patterns and have a peaceful temperament, making them ideal candidates for a diverse community setup. While not aggressive, they prefer their own territories and should be housed with similarly-sized, non-aggressive species. Ample hiding spots and a substrate of fine sand or small pebbles can help simulate their natural habitat. Regular water changes are essential to mimic their clean native waters. They are also sensitive to nitrite levels, so careful monitoring is suggested.
