Synbranchidae are elongated, eel-like fish that have evolved to thrive in diverse and often temporary water bodies. They demonstrate remarkable respiratory adaptation, capable of breathing air during periods of low oxygen availability in their habitats. These fish are noted for their burrowing abilities, and some species can even survive for short periods on land while migrating to other water bodies. They are mainly carnivorous, feeding on a diet of small aquatic invertebrates and fish. Care should be taken to ensure a secure tank environment as these eels are excellent escape artists. The setup should include plenty of hiding spots like driftwood or PVC tubes.
