Zacco platypus

Zacco platypus is a small, active freshwater fish species that is known for its shimmering body and forked tail. Adaptable and friendly, they often make excellent additions to community tanks. They are omnivorous, feeding on a variety of plankton, insects, and plant matter. These fish are known for their energetic behavior and require ample swimming space, making a long aquarium with a minimum capacity of 120 liters ideal for housing them. Due to their size and social nature, they are best kept in groups of at least six to reduce stress and promote natural behaviors. Additionally, it is important to maintain a well-oxygenated current in the tank to simulate their native fast-flowing water habitats. Given their adaptability, Zacco platypus has been introduced in various parts of the world, though it must be observed that this fish can become invasive if introduced to non-native water bodies.
